“Why are you called Sunny?” inquire the animals. “I do have a night life, and sleep by day in my den,” the skunk tells them. “But one autumn afternoon I ventured out. The lemony glow of a grape arbor made me blink. I plucked a leaf. Then I found a jay feather in breathtaking blue, and multi-hued juniper berries! A chipmunk who had been watching asked to join me. Together, we discovered more colored treasures–the dried blooms of Arizona cudweed, an orange oak gall, a willow leaf in purest yellow, and a raven feather. He used vine tendrils to weave them into a necklace and golden tiara. So he named me Sunny.”
