Like any beaver, June was a dedicated homemaker. She, and her husband Ward Beaver, endured water and mud to chisel and drag the trees and branches that would form their cozy bungalow. (A soggy foundation, yet dry on top.) But June was more than a brilliant engineer and tireless drudge. She was a beauty! She dried and fluffed herself, put on fresh cottonwood leaves and willow catkins with aquatic burweed, and finally a string of pearly buds from a pussy willow. A sulfur butterfly alighted on her brow. When Ward handed her a fire-red sprig of lobelia, their hearts blazed like the day they first met!
