Barely visible beneath interlocking cholla branches, a javelina sports an armada of spines and color. Scraps of snakeskin, yucca, cactus fruits, globemallow and devil's–claw, plus a siren bloom from a barrel cactus, are caught among the spines.
A fat scorpion poses on a prickly–pear pad, and edging the natural collar are creosote seeds, desert fern and scorpion tails.

Everyone is puzzled by the armada of needles and explosive color maneuvering slowly through the brittlebush. Barely visible under interlocking branches of cholla is a javelina. Snakeskin, yucca, cactus fruits, a devil’s claw, globemallow, and a siren-loud bloom from a barrel cactus are tucked among the spines.
