The Blue Button Print

Feeling drab beside a blooming prickly-pear, a javelina girl enlists a cactus wren to craft her a broad-brimmed hat. He starts with a plump cactus pad, then embellishes it with bits of acacia, desert fern, fairy duster and creosote, plus devil's-claws, snake skins and even scorpion tails.

Her ears are pierced with barrel-cactus spines, and on top sits a mysterious blue gem that looks like the snout of a toy piglet. The back tells how she beams with newfound confidence.
